At Health Mats we recognize that we aren’t simply a business, we are a member of a larger community. As part of our responsibilities as positive community members, we are always looking for ways to give back.
Eagles Huddle Up for Autism
The Philadelphia Eagles Huddle Up for Autism is one of our favorite programs. Health Mats President Vince Del Rossi participated in their April event. Vince hosted three families for the fun-filled day. Designed specifically for the needs of children and teens on the autism spectrum, the day was jam packed with on-field fun and games, locker room tours, and sensory activities.
Participants and guests were also treated to appearances by Philadelphia Eagles players, the Eagles Cheerleaders, and everyone’s favorite high-flying mascot, Swoop!
Since 2018 the Philadelphia Eagles have partnered with The Center for Autism Research (CAR) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), to raise funds and awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), while creating autism-friendly environments and events.
As a founding sponsor of the event, Health Mats is dedicated to the continued support of Eagles Huddle Up for Autism in their goal of improving the lives of those with ASD.
Autism Impacts Us All
Autism is a developmental disorder affecting an ever-increasing number of people. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that now, 1 in 36 children have been identified with ASD. In 2000, that number was 1 in 150.
While ASD isn’t linked to race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status, it is almost 4 times more diagnosed in boys than girls. This difference is also reflected in adults, as men make up 80% of the 5.4 million adults identified with ASD.
The numbers don’t lie: the need for Autism awareness, funding, and research has never been greater.
